The team comprises of 4 consultants, 4 middle grades, 2 CT grades, 2 FY1s and 3 ACPs. The unit is the tertiary Upper GI centre for Coventry & Warwickshire and performs the spectrum of upper GI subspecialties covering OG cancer resections, laparoscopic benign and bariatric surgery. The unit has recently commenced a robotic programme.
UHCW is the second busiest Major Trauma Centre in the UK (TARN data), hence there is a significant exposure to emergency surgery and trauma whilst on call. Each of the four consultants have clinics, endoscopy lists, day-case and main theatres every week.
This post would be good experience for trainees approaching the end of training and looking to increase their skills ahead of applying for consultancy.
