Additional information

The Upper GI and Bariatric unit at St George’s Hospital is the supra- regional centre for bariatric and complex benign upper GI surgery in south London. We perform over 200 bariatric procedures per year including a significant proportion of revisional  cases. In addition we are the regional centre for complex anti-reflux surgery including fundoplications, LINX and STRETTA. We also perform complex abdominal wall reconstruction in collaboration the plastic surgeons.

The fellow post provides high quality training in both bariatric and complex benign upper GI surgery. By the end of a 1-year fellowship our fellows typically perform primary bariatric procedures unsupervised as well as undertaking revisional bariatric surgery.

The unit  has close academic links with the University, with members of the department holding academic contracts. Typically the unit produces between 8- 10 peer reviewed publications per year and is currently involved in 3 NIHR supported trials.
